It doesn’t?? They use Aurebesh, the Basic alphabet. Now, I’m not gonna argue that Basic is just (any human language the content is written in) but it IS SLIGHTLY different.

Also Basic has been confirmed to be English so this isn’t just translation convention; the English alphabet does exist in Star Wars and they use it except they don’t.

there are a billion languages in star wars and Basic didn’t necessarily use the Aurabesh at first. It’s like in English when we say Ye Olde something. In reality the Ye is actually The because we used to have a letter that was just the ‘th’ sound but we dont anymore. The Republic is an amalgamation of millions of different cultures and species and languages and its standard use of Aurabesh doesn’t mean it couldn’t have used a different alphabet before then. In all likelihood Aurabesh was adopted to be easier for other sentients to write, read or understand without devolving into Huttese.
