Hux felt his jaw snap shut as the door opened behind him. He turned away from Snoke, interrupted in the report he had been giving to watch as the Supreme Leader’s wayward apprentice swaggered into the room.
Hux faced forward again, forcing himself not to grind his teeth only through monumental effort. He waited until Ren had drawn up beside him, felt his run his eyes over his rigid posture, before trying to reclaim his audience.
“Supreme Leader, as I was saying…”
Snoke held up a hand as he sat forward in his throne. He was more animated now with the arrival of Ren than he had been before. Indeed, even his eyes were fixed on Ren as he addressed Hux.
“Your report has been most satisfactory General; I wish to move onto other matters.”
Hux blinked at the dismissal. He had barely outlined the army’s position and strength, and had said nothing of their plans of actions against the loathsome Resistance and the remnants of the New Republic. Not to mention-
“Supreme Leader, the fate of Starkiller base-“
“Has been resolved to my satisfaction,” Snoke replied. “I brought you here to discuss your reward General, not your punishment.”
Hux frowned, his mind working over the puzzle that the loss of Starkiller could be so easily dismissed, even while his body responded to “reward”, pulling him straight with his shoulders back, and tilting his chin up.
“I have gathered you both here today to form a union,” Snoke began, “one which has proven its strength even as the Resistance struck their blow against us.”
Hux could feel Ren fidgeting beside him, as restless as his Master. Hux did his best to ignore him.
“My apprentice has long since known this day was coming, and now you, general, I hope have had time to look deep inside yourself and know now what is true.”
Hux felt as if he had missed some miniscule, but essential, part of his briefing before entering the throne room, but he would not admit to that now. Instead he swallowed and nodded. Snoke smiled, his scar twisting on his face as he nodded in kind.
“This pleases me,” he said. “Therefore, Kylo Ren, Master of the Knights of Ren and General Hux, General of the First Order, I pronounce you joined in union.”
“What?”
“You may kiss your spouse.”
“WHAT!”
Hux’s yell was cut off abruptly as he found himself swung round by the lapels of his greatcoat, Kylo Ren pressing his soft, warm lips to Hux’s own, still rigid in shock. Kylo Ren pulled back, his dark eyes soft with misplaced affection, mistaking the look on Hux’s own face with some form of glad overwhelm with the situation. Ren turned to Snoke, saluting his – their? – Master, while keeping one arm tight around Hux’s shoulders.
“What…” Hux muttered, staring into a far off distance.
“Supreme Leader, we will not fail you,” Ren called.
“We shall see,” Snoke muttered, sitting back in his throne and observing them over steepled fingers. “We shall see.”
This was inspired by the cryptid-like sighting of Hux in the Red Throne Room, and is entirely @x-wing-leader-poe‘s fault.
